How an Engine Cleaning Machine Works

An engine cleaning machine uses high-frequency sound waves to create implosions in a special solution that dislodge and dissolve debris accumulated inside an engine block. This removes hard-to-reach deposits and helps ensure an engine is clean before assembly.

Shops of all sizes and focuses can benefit from an engine cleaning machine. But it’s important to understand how the equipment functions and works so shops can set up their equipment thoughtfully within the construct of their engine build process. We spoke with Drew Pumphrey of D&J Precision Machine in Cambridge, Ohio, a shop that specializes in Cummins diesel engines. Drew shares the four or five different types of cleaning solutions he employs for cores, castings and small components and how each impacts his workflow.

The ACT engine cleaning system, which can handle industrial-sized engines, provides an effective, economical and quick way to clean the interiors of these large engines. The system is designed to efficiently remove carbon deposits from the internal passages, oil galleys and other areas that are difficult to reach with conventional cleaning methods.
