Inline Ultrasonic Cleaning Machine
Whether it is cleaning surgical instruments or engine components, an inline ultrasonic cleaning machine offers a superior alternative to manual scrubbing or harsh chemicals. The high-frequency sound waves scrub clean the surface of immersed parts by causing microscopic bubbles to form and dislodge contaminants. This results in more thorough and uniform cleaning than is possible with abrasive scrubbing or chemical cleaners.
The basic elements of an ultrasonic cleaning system are a tank, an electric generator, and a transducer. The generator generates high-frequency electrical energy that is transmitted through the transducer and causes it to vibrate at ultrasonic frequencies. The frequency of the vibrations determines how omnidirectional or unidirectional the ultrasonic energy is. The amplitude or intensity of the vibrations depends on the size of the smallest part and the amount of liquid in the tank.
In order for the cavitation to occur, the sonic vibrations must create an area that is smaller than the surrounding area. The ensuing implosion releases powerful forces that dislodge or lift contaminants from the surfaces of the immersed parts. The implosion and expansion cycles continue until all of the surfaces are clean. The liquid in the tank then rinses off the encapsulated contaminants and removes them from the parts.
High-quality ultrasonic cleaners use a range of frequency settings to optimize the cleaning process for different applications. Frequencies between 20-40 kHz are typically used for heavier, heavily soiled items. This frequency range provides the strength necessary to penetrate crevices and blind holes on large parts. Alternatively, ultrasonic frequencies between 70-190 kHz provide more gentle cleaning for delicate items like disk drive components and optical surfaces.
In addition to frequency, the temperature of the cleaning solution is also important. High temperatures will accelerate the evaporation of the liquid, and low temperatures can cause freezing of the solution. Therefore, the temperature of the cleaning solution should be kept above 100 °F.
Inline ultrasonic cleaning machines designed for endless profiles and wires can be integrated into existing production processes to quickly and efficiently prepare the material for further processing or its intended application. These systems are compact and easy to operate. They are typically set up to run continuous cycles, and the number of stations in the line can be varied depending on desired yield and total process time. Hielscher ultrasonic inline cleaners are available with a variety of specifications and capacities to suit any manufacturing environment.
